 Sam

Still Working

Hello...my name is Sam.  I just turned 21 years old and I am partying like you would not believe.   I have been living at the sanctuary for a little while now.  I came here when my original Mom had to go to assisted living.  I went there to, at first, then the people said I had to go because I always stuck close to my Mom.  They booted me out.  I was shocked and you would have been too....I had a reservation and everything.  Go figure!   My human sister found Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & NJ and got me all hooked up.  Now I live in a place where there are other doxies...and I get to work weekends at public events.  Not bad for an old guy like me.

Last year we had a big scare.  I was working an event and started to bleed from my mouth.  My new Mom and all my human friends looked really scared.  I went to see the veterinarian the next day; Mom said that you can't wait on stuff like this.  I had to get some tests and they said it was an Oral Melanoma [Cancer]...I am pretty brave, but even I was scared.  No worries, my new buddy Dr Robert Orsher over at the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency place zoomed me right in and got rid of the tumor that was causing the bleeding.  They got it all and now I am on a special vaccine to keep it from coming back!  No chemo, no radiation and I can keep working!!  They are the best!

I am one lucky guy.  I have friends, a great job and I am loved.  Here at my new home there are heated floors and lots of comforters to snooze  with before I start my shift.  It is hard to imagine what would have happened to me without a special place like this.  I even have my own heated bed at night!  Makes my bones feel extra good.  I am blessed to have such a great home and to know I will never have to leave.

I am looking for a best friend...maybe that is you.  I really love people and I know I could love you.  I get lots of love and support at Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & NJ and I sleep better knowing it is a forever home for me...but that is not possible without an assist from some of my friends in the community.  Joining our Best Friends program helps me and other little cast off's like me.  Please make a difference and join.

I want to stay here forever and ever
...and with your help, I can.

DRBC's is able to take care of me and so many other sick and abused dachshunds. because of generous gifts like yours.  You are something special.  Sometimes I worry about the future, but now maybe not as much.  I know love is out there.  Please help me and my brothers and sisters.  Gosh, thanks.

Sam is the only wired haired dachshund at the sanctuary.  He fills our days with love and laughter.  We cherish every day with this special friend and take delight in his working days at our events.  Behind the smiles we keep a close eye on his mouth and his blood values.   Granting Sam sanctuary was one of the easiest decisions we ever made as he is such a great guy, but even great guys can have large medical bills. Please help us help Sam and those like him. DRBC is proud to be able to care for Sam and his friends in our Best Friends Program for the rest of their lives.

Becoming a Best Friend means you will be helping some of the neediest doxies here at DRBC, sanctuary doxies that are here because of their special physical or emotional needs.
