DRBC Project Green

Green is everywhere you look these days from stores news, fashion, politics and technology. It is hard not to get overwhelmed by the constant media blitz concerning this global objective, but remember, it is simpler to take a few small steps that have real impact. Embracing a greener lifestyle isn't just about helping to preserve equatorial rain forests, it can also mean improving your health, padding your bank account, and, ultimately, improving your overall quality of life. All that and you can save furry animals, too? Why wouldn't anyone want to go green?

DRBC has initiated 'Project Green' with these very thoughts in mind. We hope that the small steps we have outlined below help you to make that positive outcome on your world and on ours as well.

Green Facts: Shopping Bags

Did You Know....

100 million plastic bags a week go to landfill.
Plastic bags can take between 15 and 1000 years to break down in the environment.
Each year, an estimated 500 billion - 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That translates to over one million per minute.
North America goes through 110 billion plastic shopping bags annually.
Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photodegrade—breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways polluting our soil, rivers, lakes and oceans.
Production of plastic bags requires vast amounts of oil.
Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.

Community Outreach

Merchant Ink Cartridges
Want to make a really big impact on the used ink cartridge situation? Look to the places you shop or bank. Banks use ink cartridges and are often more than willing to support efforts make on behalf of community groups, like DRBC. Next time you make a deposit at the bank, drop off that dry cleaning or use the services of other merchants ask if they would be willing to donate their used ink cartridges. You will be helping to reduce the level of non-biodegradable plastics in land fills and help DRBC at the same time!

Second Life for Gadgets and Gadget Batteries

You thought we only rescued dachshunds, well, not true. We want to rescue your old cell phones and batteries from all your electronic gadgets! Here is another great way to recycle and help save the lives of your favorite breed.

Look around the house, in the car and at the office. Most people don't throw batteries in the trash, but also don't know what to do with them. DRBC can help you with that.

Gather your batteries and let us know. There may be an event near you soon where you can drop them off and get to say 'hi', or we can make arrangements to get them from you privately. Either way, it helps us raise needed funding for the veterinary care our little ones receive.
