![]() Cora's House The House That Love Built Imagine a home where heated floors soothed your aching and arthritic bones as you and your best friend lay on a wonderfully soft cushion under a really great sunbeam and watched the world go by…for hours. Imagine that someone bothered to cook a special meal that catered to the needs of your changing and aging body every night just because you're you. Imagine long sunny days with a clear shade tree to sleep under and a glistening stream to drink from anytime you wanted. Imagine a place where the UPS man, the FedEx guy and the mailman were suddenly all your buddies. Imagine a world where Doctors still made house calls; illnesses didn't seem to be the end of the world, and that when you felt even a little sick somebody took care of it right away, because the medical stuff was right there. Imagine that you were very old and your every day started with a hug and a kiss from someone that made you feel just so very special; then imagine it ending that same way. Guess what? You can stop imagining. This very special
house really does exist. At DRBC we call it Cora's Place and it is a
house that only love could have built.
Each year Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County [DRBC] participates in the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of approximately 200 dachshunds and the number continues to increase annually. Of this number, approximately 8-10% are Senior Citizens [greater than 11yrs] or Special Needs [Paraplegics, Chronic Kidney Failure Doxies, The Blind, etc]. DRBC sees the elderly, the injured and ill, the neglected and the outright abused. Our group tries to give these unfortunate souls an extra special chance to find an extraordinary home who, understanding their plight, will somehow try to make it up to them by offering a new and especially loving life. The DRBC Staff faces work, which can be both wonderfully gratifying and excruciatingly painful. There are the joys of seeing your charges find wonderful homes, and the pain and heartbreak of seeing what man is capable of in mistreating an animal. Nonetheless, our work goes on. Not all will be successful in their attempt, in fact some don't even get a first look, as they are too old or too sick to leave the medical care of DRBC…. The Senior Mission * Rescue senior and special need dogs in distress * Provide lifelong quality care for rescued senior and special need dogs * Adopt appropriate dogs in loving, permanent homes, if possible * Develop programs that match senior and special need dogs and senior people their mutual benefit * Foster an awareness of our lifelong responsibility to our companion animals * Strengthen the bonds between humans and animals by teaching respect and compassion for all living things Building Fund DRBC currently operates through the kindness of those in the DRBC Foster System. Cora's House exists in the practices that guide our senior home, but for every dachshund there 4 more wait to take their place. 2011 begins our pledge to build Cora's Place. This will be a home where there will always be space and where older dogs can come to enjoy the remainder of their lives. Your pledge today can make a difference. It does not take much. Check below to see how much of a difference your 5 year pledge can make to the construction of this facility.
