My name is Arthur. I am 12 years old and I get confused easily about well, just about everything. I came from a home where nobody cared about me too much, OK, at all. I was covered in fleas and ticks when my friends at Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & NJ reached me. I was really sick. The people that had me said I had to go 'cause I did everything wrong. I tried to be a good doxie, really I did.
Once my family said that was it, life got even worse. I had to stay in a crate out on the porch and sometimes it rained. Good thing my buddies at Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & NJ came when they did, cause I had kind of given up.
I had to go right to the veterinarian. The fleas had given me bad parasites, whatever that is, and the fleas and ticks made me 'nemic, which is vet lingo for not enough blood or something like that. I stayed with the nice people at the vet place for over 6 weeks. They said I was one lucky guy. They didn't have to tell me!
I was worried that I was going back to the porch, but I was wrong. I got to go to a place called sanctuary care and it was a lot of fun. There was a big yard to run around in, another dog to play with, and the people really liked me a lot, even though I made some of my old mistakes. They helped me learn the right way without hurting me and that was really good.
The veterinarians said they were not sure if I was so slow because of my in-breeding or because I had been sick for so long. I don't worry about it anymore because I have a big brother and get to watch Animal Planet every day. I am not sure how those dogs got in the big box or where they go when the day is over, but I am lucky to be here and hope I always will be.
Will you be my best friend? Pretty please. Inside I am just like any other doxie and I know that with your help I can feel like one too. I may not be the smartest doxie out there but I no longer worry because I get lots of love and support at Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & NJ. I get lots of love too. Oh wait, I said that already.
Your love and support help me get through every day
- no matter how confusing it can be.
