About DRBC

DRBC History

Founded in 1984 by Bucks County, PA and New Jersey dachshund lovers, DRBC is a 501-C3 nonprofit supported completely by donations. Our all-volunteer organization works tirelessly to provide an experience for both the adopter and adoptee that helps guarantee a perfect match.

Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

DRBC’s goal is to save abandoned, owner turn-ins, neglected or stray Dachshunds.  DRBC does not just place needy Dachshunds; we specialize in matches of the heart.   All DRBC dogs with long-term medical issues are given life-long sanctuary as permanent members of one of our foster homes.  Additionally, DRBC supports the long term sponsorship of senior dachshunds.

DRBC prides itself as an organization on the level of medical care provided and in its role as a medical resource for the dachshund breed.

We endeavor to obtain all Doxies in animal shelters thus avoiding euthanasia.  We also aid Doxie owners in recovering lost or stolen pets.

Our rescue program, which has been in existence over 20 years, serves the Dachshund Rescue needs of Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Be A DRBC Superstar!!

DRBC has had the good fortune of having great support for all our efforts throughout the years.  Today we have a special request for all doxie lovers out there.

Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & NJ has been hard hit by the economy this past year.  Turn-ins are up, the cost of medical support has risen while adoption fees have stayed fixed.

You can make the difference for these wonderful dogs through your support today.  Help us help them.

All donations are applied to the medical care these animals so desperately need.

DRBC Adoption Area

DRBC is a regional rescue helping to place doxies within the PA and NJ areas.  It is important to us to be able to reach one of our placements quickly, if needed.  This is why the rescue only places within this area

We do not make exceptions!!

DRBC Factoids

  • Our dogs range in age from 6 months to 21 years of age.   Many people believe that a Dachshund has outgrown it’s puppy years at age 1; however, Dachshunds remain puppies and do not fully mature until age 5 years.  Considering an older dog may be more advantageous for your needs because they are usually housebroken and are more easily trained.
  • Dachshunds come in four basic sizes:
    • Mini (up to 12 pounds),
    • Tweenie (12 to 20 pounds)
    • Standard (20 to 28 pounds)
    • Teckle (28+ pounds)
Note: Being overweight does not count in any category!
  • Coats are short hair, long hair or wire hair.
  • Coat colors range from red to black & tan to brindle to dapple.
  • Most of our dogs are healthy but some do have medical problems.  These problems are fully disclosed prior to an adoption.
  • The Dachshund Breed is loyal, loving and intelligent. They are curious and protective.  They love to be cuddled and have a desire to please their owners.  In return, they ask for love from their owners and a warm and comfortable home.
  • Initially, because some of our dogs have suffered abandonment or some emotional trauma, they do require patience, love and guidance to fit into your world.
  • Many of our “rescues” come from owner turn-ins for reasons
such as a family divorce, death of owner, a move to an apartment, or an owner no longer able to care for their Dachshund.  Others are from animal shelters or strays who
    have been found wandering.
  • All of our dogs receive a physical examination by our veterinarian, who specializes in the Dachshund breed.   Each dog is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dental checked, heartworm tested and started on heartworm preventative.  He/She is then released to “foster care” where the dog lives with a family and is evaluated for temperament, ability to get along with other dogs, children, etc.
  • DRBC attempts to get as much information as possible on the Dachshund turn-in.  This allows the rescue to better evaluate each dog in an attempt to find the “best” fit for the dog and a new family.
